PN students in labÂ鶹ӳ»’s Practical Nursing (PN) program has been recognized as the No. 2 Licensed Practical Nursing program in North Carolina for 2026 by PracticalNursing.org, a trusted national resource for nursing education, licensure, and career information.

The annual rankings recognize nursing programs that demonstrate excellence in preparing future nurses through strong academic outcomes and quality instruction.

“This recognition reflects the outstanding work of our Practical Nursing faculty and the dedication of our students,” said Dr. Robert Robinson, Dean of Health Sciences. “Our faculty are committed to preparing compassionate, highly skilled nurses who are ready to provide exceptional patient care from day one. We are incredibly proud of this achievement.”

BCC’s ACEN-accredited Practical Nursing program combines rigorous classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experiences that prepare graduates to sit for the NCLEX-PN licensure examination and begin rewarding careers in healthcare. Students gain valuable experience using advanced simulation technology and industry-leading equipment in the Dan & Linda Lynes Health Sciences Center, helping build confidence and clinical decision-making skills before entering the workforce.

“We congratulate our Practical Nursing faculty, students, and alumni on this well-deserved recognition,” said Dr. Gene Smith, President of Â鶹ӳ». “Their commitment to excellence, combined with our investment in state-of-the-art facilities and technology, ensures our graduates are well prepared to meet the growing healthcare needs of our region.”

Brunswick Community Colleg has granted initial accreditation to the BCC Associate Degree and Practical Nursing programs. ACEN Accreditation recognizes high quality in nursing education by fostering program excellence through peer review, benefiting students, faculty, and the community.

“Achieving ACEN Accreditation is a great accomplishment made possible by our faculty’s hard work and dedication,” said Shaylene Ball, MSN, RN, and Director of Nursing. “It stamps approval on programs that we have known for a long time are among the best. It also inspires us to work harder than ever to continuously go beyond the high standards set by ACEN to give our students and their future patients every advantage.”

The ACEN Accreditation process is rigorous, involving candidacy, self-study, and peer review, but the benefits are many. “Potential employers know that students graduating from an accredited program are top-notch and ready to hit the ground running,” said Ball. “Many government agencies will only hire nurses from accredited programs. We feel immensely proud at reaching this important milestone and look forward to even greater accomplishments ahead.”

The purpose of the ACEN is to provide specialized accreditation for all levels of nursing education and transition-to-practice programs. Recognized as an accrediting body by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), ACEN is one of the largest specialized accrediting agencies, accrediting nursing programs throughout the United States, its territories, and internationally. Learn more about ACEN at acennursing.org.

The Associate Degree and Practical Nursing programs are part of BCC’s Health Sciences offerings. This area of study combines science and health services into various career fields committed to improving the healthcare industry and delivering quality care to patients, no matter the population.
