May 5, 2022 — Congratulations to Â鶹ӳ»­â€™s two most recent Medical Assistants, Amanda McCrary and Jade Milliken. The students were officially pinned as Medical AssistantsÌýIn a special ceremony led by BCC President Gene Smith and Dean of Health Sciences Dr. Molly Curry. During the ceremony, Ms. Milliken was honored a second time with the Medical Assisting Outstanding Student Award.

The Medical Assisting curriculum at BCC prepares multi-skilled health care professionals to perform clinical, laboratory, and administrative procedures. Course work includes instruction in assisting with clinical examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration, confidentially/HIPAA training and ethical/legal issues associated with patient care; administratively instruction includes training in scheduling appointments, coding, and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, computer operations, and basic administrative office procedures.ÌýÌý

Graduates of CAAHEP-accredited medical assisting programs may be eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants’ Certification Examination to become Certified Medical Assistants. Employment opportunities include physicians’ offices, urgent care facilities, specialty offices, and health departments. () (AAMA).
